Lorena Ortiz Schneider was born in Ecuador, raised in Mexico, Spain, England, France and California. As an adult, she has lived in France and Argentina and has traveled extensively. She is bilingual in English and Spanish, fluent in French and has Portuguese as a working C language. Lorena earned her BA at UCSB and MA from the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Translation and Conference Interpreting.
As a passionate professional interpreter and translator since 1992, she is the owner of Ortiz Schneider Interpreting & Translation, Inc. a local agency on the Central Coast of California, offering interpreting and translation jobs to up to 50 interpreters and translators at any given time. She is an American Translators Association (ATA) Certified Translator and California State Certified Administrative Hearing Interpreter, has worked for the US Department of State as Escort and Seminar Interpreter, as Conference Interpreter for private industry and community based programs, for Workers’ Compensation, Social Security Administration, EDD and the Courts. She works as a medical and legal interpreter and translator, interpreting at events such as depositions, court proceedings and healthcare assignments. Translations include medical/legal documents as well as marketing materials for products across various industries, such as the the food, petroleum, construction, financial and technical industries.
Lorena is a member of CWCIA, and actively participating on the IP&O Committee, supporting and giving back to the interpreting community. She is also ATA’s Interpreter Division (ID) Assistant Administrator and editor of the ID Blog. She has presented at the California Federation of Interpreters Conference, was one of 8 InterpreT-ED speakers at InterpretAmerica’s 5th Summit and co-presenter at Work Comp Central’s seminar on Ethics.
Lorena is also a Cross Cultural Communications Licensed Trainer, teaching from the The Community Interpreter International to those who desire to enter the interpreting profession. Her love for interpreting has led her to share her knowledge and expertise in educating the next generation of interpreters to assist the growing number of Limited English Proficient (LEP) access community services.
Leo Schneider, Scheduling Coordinator and Operations Manager, was raised in Santa Barbara, California, and Buenos AIres, Argentina. Fluent in Spanish and English, Leo is a graduate of Cornell University’s ILR School. After graduation, Leo began his career in tech, initiating customer relationships at a fortune 100 company. Next, he spent time in the footwear industry, supporting a biomechanical research team and generating new business, driving 42% annual growth. Most recently, he worked in wealth management, on a team providing holistic financial planning and investment advisory services. Committed to providing an exceptional client experience and operational excellence, Leo leverages his background to support our team, streamline operations and deliver service at the highest level. Away from the office, Leo enjoys spending time with his friends and family, reading, TV and movies, basketball and lifting heavy things.
Amanda Liera, Office Manager, was born and raised in Mexico City. She earned a BA in Communications from the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Mexico, and also holds a certificate in Human Resources from UCSB. She has worked in public relations, communications and business administration for over 20 years, and puts her experience and detail oriented approach to work driving efficient execution. A Spanish/English bilingual, Amanda enjoys her fiends and family, fashion, food and travel.
Debra Navarro, Billing Manager, was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California. Debbie worked in banking for 10 years as a Bank Teller and Customer Service Representative, where she enjoyed working with local merchants. She then joined MedCenters, working as a Business Administrator, where she managed patient relationships and trained in the back office as a medical assistant and lab technician. She has also worked with local Orthopedic physicians Dr. Donald Fareed, Dr. Donald Webb and Dr. Daniel Ovadia as an Office Manager. Here at OSIT, she leverages both her experience in banking and 25 years of Workers’ Compensation experience to execute billing processes. Away form the office, Debbie enjoys reading, walking and being with family.
Business Development Associate
Marcos Schneider, a Business Development Associate, was born in California and raised mostly in Santa Barbara. Growing up in a bilingual household, Marcos has an inherited interest in languages, learning English as and Spanish at a young age, and later achieved fluency in Spanish through time spent living in Argentina and Spain. A short stay in France convinced him of his need to learn French as well. His passion for graphic design and creative problem solving give him the disposition and tools to perform in his role, where he focuses on branding and marketing for the company. Marcos is currently pursuing a major in Human Centered Product Design through the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University.
